John Humphrey was born in Salford, England. He got his primary education in Sculpture from Cheltenham & amp. Gloucester College and then graduated from the esteemed Royal Academy Schools. Since then, he has been crafting new feats in films and television by combining the weight of fine arts and special effects, such as “Max Headroom”. His work was mostly related to figures and sculptures that had a distorted figure and were against the mainstream conventional sculpture arts.
His unique method of exploring portrait sculpture gave the viewers a fresh and interesting domain of art, with a clue of fourth dimension as well, which has never been experienced before. Humphrey has recently given all his attention to fine arts and his fiberglass sculpture has even appeared in an exhibition. John has moved his studio to a bigger and wide locality in East London where he is bringing numerous gorgeous sculptures to life. John Humphrey’s ideas are fantastic yet based on reality. His work crosses all conventional laws and rubrics, accomplishing objectives in visual and spatial challenges and leaves the spectators to gaze at the artistic space between them and the sculpture.
According to the artist, there are numerous procedures and stages which makes his sculptures so realistic and artistically marvelous. The sculptures are first modeled in clay, and then further molded in silicone. After the silicone layer, the sculpture is casted into fine and pure fiberglass. For final touches, the sculpture is brushed and coated with many thin layers of translucent acrylic color(s) for depth. The eyes are separated, molded and then painted with natural pigments and as with the skin, in numerous coats to further enhance the three dimensional illusion.
The hypnotic mesmerizing effect of these sculptures leave the observers in a phase far beyond the human state and momentarily diverts them to another realm altogether.
